Tokenizing Anti-racism

We might have a tokenization problem. There’s alot of stuff going around about white protesters “listening to Black voices”, but that gets treated as some kind of monolith. I’m seeing white people pick the Black person who, amazing coincidence, already is saying things they agree with, then shaming anyone who disagrees (with the white person by proxy) for “not listening to Black voices”.

You could be a Proud Boy and Kamala Harris would probably agree with your position on police, but does that make you anti-racist?

It’s an elaborate version of white people quoting Dr. King out of context, isn’t it? What if, stay with me here, the main task was to abolish the police instead of white adjudication of a mythical Black monolith.

It’s not just about voices, it’s about material conditions.
