The Nouveau Poor

The eternal horizon for the unorganized working class isn’t so much to be “successful” as it is to avoid getting tossed in one of society’s several trashcans. Not being houseless, incarcerated, stigmatized for mental or physical health, or murdered by police is the bar there. And now, judging by ads and larger conversations, the erstwhile middle class is trying to just stylize the working class conditions they increasingly find themselves in. They fetishize poverty copes that poor people have always done, as though they invented them.

Housing insecure? Dump your life savings on some tiny home (shack)/RV(trailer house). Get furniture that transforms into like 5 different rooms because you’re landing in a one room situation. Find any way to make yourself feel like you’re not also nearing the bottom, but have pretensions about still being different or better. Continue to insult and degrade people who have always been poor. Call yourself a “Creative” while you eat your ramen.

The Nouveau Poor, let’s call it. Once we all realize we’re just workers, whether we work an assembly line, a cubical, or a lab coat, and that we are mutually doomed unless we radically upgrade our awareness of the Class War, we continue to lose said Class War and sell each other out to the class war. We didn’t start it but we collectively have to end it, or perish at the hands of it. IMO, the Nouveau Poor must join that struggle but should not lead it.

The ruling class has long since shown its hand as the monsters they are, and their absolute contempt for the worth of working people (ie all of us). We should join or form organizations about it. Make being a bourgeois monster unsafe again.
